Who is this for?
Patients with symptomatic earwax buildup causing hearing difficulty, fullness, or discomfort. Before irrigating, we confirm with an otoscopic exam that the eardrum is intact and there is no active infection.
When should I avoid ear irrigation?
Irrigation is not appropriate if you have a known or suspected perforated eardrum, an active ear infection, recent ear surgery, or certain ear tubes. Tell us about any history of ear problems, or recent pain, discharge, or trauma.
What should I expect during the procedure?
We may use softening drops beforehand, then gently irrigate the canal with body-temperature fluid directed along the canal wall, re-examine the ear, and dry or manually remove any residual wax if needed. The procedure is usually quick; some temporary dizziness or fullness can occur.
Do I need an appointment?
An appointment is strongly recommended. Walk-ins are accepted depending on availability, but scheduled patients are seen first.
What is the cost?
Usually covered by most insurance, though it may apply toward your deductible if you haven't met it yet for the year. Self-pay is $45.00.
